Indiana Swimmers & Coaches Shine at World Championships

The 17th World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25 m) took place from  December 10-15, 2024 in Budapest, Hungary

Led by Head Coach Chris Plumb (Carmel Swim Club. and joined by assistant coaches John Long (Indiana Swim Club/Indiana University) USA Swimming dominated the medal count with 21 world records, 28 American records, 28 championship records, two world junior records, and 39 total medals (18g,13s,8b)

*Chris was previously an assistant coach at the 2023 World Championships and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. 

Indiana Olympians Alex Shackell (Carmel Swim Club) & Lilly King (Indiana Swim Club) both set World Records.  Shackell on the 4x100 Freestyle Relay & Lilly King on the 400 Medley Relay.

*Shackell won four relay medals, including two golds at the Short Course World Championships

Shackell on swimming the relay: “It was pretty cool. That was the first World Record I have been a part of, so that’s a dream come true. I feel like this is building off of this summer and things are going really well. I’m really excited for more relays.”

King on the relay team: “Honestly, (the ready room) was pretty chaotic. Regan (Smith) was running from awards, I was running from awards, and (Gretchen Walsh and Kate Douglass) had forty races combined this week. It was the last race and we just wanted to have fun, everybody else is so serious and we don’t have to do that.”
