USA Swimming Interpretation & Exemption procedure for Rules & Regulations Article 102.9.1 (Swimwear) - 2.6.09
Below, you will find USA Swimming’s interpretation of Rules and Regulations Article 102.91 (Swimwear) issued by the USA Swimming Rules and Regulations Committee. In this interpretation you will note an exemption procedure to this rule based on Religious beliefs or medical conditions.
All Indiana Swimming athletes in need may apply immediately for this exemption using the guidelines listed in the attached document, to the USA Swimming Rules and Regulations Chair to have approval for the beginning of the Long Course (Summer) 2009 season.

BEGINNING MAY 1, 2009 AN EXEMPTION TO THE INDIANA SWIMMING SUIT LEGISLATION BELOW, BASED ON RELIGIOUS BELIEFS OR MEDICAL CONDITIONS WILL REQUIRE AN APPROVAL BY THE USA SWIMMING RULES AND REGULATIONS COMMITTEE.
A. Swim suits worn by 12 and under males participating in all Indiana Swimming sanctioned “age group” competitions will not extend above the navel or below the knees.
B. Swim suits worn by 12 and under females participating in all Indiana Swimming sanctioned “age group” competitions will not cover the neck, extend past the shoulders; extend beyond the shoulder, nor below the pelvis.
C. Swimsuits worn for competition must be non-transparent and conform to the current concept of appropriate.
D. The referee shall have the authority to bar offenders from the competition until they comply with the rule.
IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE: ALL athletes must conform to this Indiana Swimming legislation that was passed by the HOD in October 2008. Although the USA Swimming Waiver will NOT be required for this spring's Indiana Swimming championship meets, all athletes will still need to inform the Meet Referee of any requests for exemption to the legislation PRIOR to the start of the session.
AFTER MAY 1: IT WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SWIMMER TO PROVIDE A COPY OF THE WAIVER TO THE REFEREE OF ANY INDIANA SWIMMING MEET PRIOR TO THE SESSION IN WHICH THE SWIMMER WISHES TO PARTICIPATE.
